Auf Ari Seth Cohens Blog "Advanced Style" bin ich durch Zufall gestoßen. Der New Yorker Modeblogger fotografiert und schreibt über den Stil von Frauen (und ein paar Männern) weit jenseits der 50.

60-, 70-, 80-, 90-, selbst 100-Jährige und ihren Kleidungsstil hat er auf seinem Blog porträtiert. Manche der Bilder sind einfach nur abgefahren, andere eher klassisch stilbewusst, wieder andere würden auch an einem Teenager durchgehen.

Er bildet vor allem Frauen ab, weil diese, so Cohen, es, wenn sie älter werden, schwieriger haben: Sie werden mehr anhand von Äußerlichkeiten bewertet - und graue Haaren, faltige Haut und Altersflecken auf dem Handrücken entsprechen nicht wirklich unserem Schönheitsideal.

Dass - und wie - man trotzdem selbstbewusst und schön und stark in Richtung Alter gehen kann, zeigt Cohen mit seinen Bildern.

It was by coincidence that I came across Ari Seth Cohen's blog "Advanced Style" on which he portrays women (and some men) way beyond their 50s. He focuses on their style, be it classy, crazy or rather casual. The reason Cohen focuses on women is that, in an society where grey hair and wrinkled skin are not really conform to the dominant ideal of beauty, it is comparatively more difficult for them to grow old. Men, on the other hand, tend to be much less judged on their outward appearance only. That is why Cohen's pictures are of so much value: They show that - and how - women can grow old and remain confident, beautiful and strong.
